Dave Poole Biography for Staffordshire Moorlands

Early Challenges and Career Beginnings

Dave Poole, a dedicated candidate for Staffordshire Moorlands with Reform UK, faced significant challenges in his early years. Leaving school in the mid-1980s, he entered the workforce during a period of economic decline and industrial struggle in rural Cheshire. Despite the Conservative government’s efforts under Margaret Thatcher to stabilize the nation, the impact did not reach the outskirts of Cheshire.

Initially involved in youth training schemes as a welder and vehicle technician, Dave transitioned into the burgeoning mobile phone repair industry. With limited formal training, he taught himself the necessary skills and spent years working with The Caudwell Group at their technical facility, "The Mobile Phone Repair Company." His career later included roles at D2D and Celestica UK, where he handled repairs for major manufacturers like NEC, Motorola, and Orbitel. Eventually, disillusioned by the industry's corporate shift, Dave returned to his family's trade in vehicle breakdown and recovery.

Building a Successful Business

In 2008, Dave invested in his first truck, gradually expanding his business to operate 15 vehicles in the Cheshire/Staffordshire areas. His growth is a testament to his hard work and dedication, achieved without seeking financial aid from banks, even during the pandemic. During this challenging period, Dave maintained full employment for his staff, foregoing his own wages and avoiding furloughs.

Personal Life and Motivations

Dave married his long-time partner, Julie, in 1998, and they have a son together. Julie’s unwavering support and grounding presence have been crucial to Dave’s personal and professional life. They share a light-hearted agreement: for every classic car Dave acquires, Julie gets a new cat!

His political awakening came during a drive to Africa when he read about local council issues in Private Eye magazine. Enraged by the frequent mentions of his local council in the "Rotten Boroughs" section, Dave delved into studying local and national government, leading him to feel compelled to engage actively in politics.

Political Journey and Achievements

Dave’s first attempt at local town council elections was met with significant resistance, including manipulated social media campaigns and unfair tactics. Despite these challenges, he secured second place. Undeterred, Dave participated in a subsequent by-election and won, triumphing over the Labour candidate by 17 votes—a David versus Goliath scenario with his small team facing a large Labour machine. More recently, he came within 57 votes of defeating the Cheshire East Council leader in an all-out election, reflecting his rapid rise in politics.

Vision for Reform

Having experienced various successes in town council elections, Dave is now focused on addressing the pressing need for reform at both local and national levels. He believes that the current state of central government requires substantial changes, which neither Labour nor Conservative parties seem willing to address.

Dave is critical of over-regulated industries, including agriculture, engineering, and manufacturing, which he believes are harming the economy and reducing prosperity for everyone. He also highlights deficiencies in our law and justice institutions, educational standards, and the neglect of historical education as crucial issues that need urgent attention.
