Melandra Smith for High Peak in General Elections 2024

I'm delighted to stand as interim chair of High Peak branch Reform UK and county council candidate for Buxton North and East here in High Peak. I am a local lady, born in Macclesfield as many of us here in the neighbouring hills were, raised in the Staffordshire Moorlands, moved to Derbyshire Dales when I got married in 2004 and have lived in Buxton spa town here in High Peak for the last 5 years with my husband Paul and our children.

I am a professional writer, proofreader, illustrator and fine artist by trade, and have carried out freelance US to British English localisation for international clients including Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook and many more household names since 2009. My professional training is both with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (2003, 2017) and with the Chartered Institute of Editors and Publishers (2004).

I am new to politics although my interest in current affairs is long-standing. I have voted for both Labour and Conservative candidates at different general elections, but over recent years I have tended to favour the more independent-thinking parties like UKIP, the Brexit Party and now Reform UK. Like many others, I decided to back Reform UK because it is a party full of common-sense people with common-sense ideas, and candidates who are motivated to stand because we believe in putting Britain and our voters first.
