Gareth Thomas Biography, Parliamentary Candidate for Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare

Dr. Gareth Thomas, a prominent figure in the Merthyr and Aberdare communities, draws deep inspiration from his Welsh heritage rooted in the hardworking legacy of coal miners and steelworkers. Raised in the South Wales Valleys since childhood, Gareth developed a profound respect for service and sacrifice, influenced by his military upbringing with both parents serving and grandfathers who fought in World War II.

After a spinal cord injury led to his medical discharge from the army, Gareth embarked on a diverse career path that showcases his resilience and determination. He transitioned into entrepreneurship, modeling, professional photography, and academia, earning three psychology degrees and multiple therapy diplomas. Committed to mental health advocacy, he founded a non-profit organization providing essential support to those in need and serves as a director for a charity aiding disabled individuals, veterans, and the able-bodied alike.

Gareth's political journey reflects his evolving convictions. Formerly a member of the Liberal Democrats, he withdrew his support in 2010 following their coalition negotiations with the Conservatives. His stance solidified in 2016 with a vote to leave the European Union and subsequent support for the Conservatives in the 2019 election. However, disillusionment with the Conservatives post-Brexit prompted Gareth to join the Reform Party in 2020, driven by a vision to restore British greatness and effect meaningful change as a member of Parliament.

As a Reform UK candidate, Gareth Thomas advocates vigorously for his constituents, emphasizing the need for a robust opposition to Labour and a renewed focus on critical issues such as reducing NHS waiting lists, addressing homelessness, prioritizing mental health services, lowering energy costs, bolstering police presence, supporting struggling families, strengthening the military, and enhancing veteran support services.

Gareth urges voters across Merthyr and Aberdare to support Reform UK, highlighting the party's commitment to genuine transformation in British politics. A vote for Gareth Thomas is a vote for substantive change and a continued strong presence for the Reform Party in Westminster.
