Mark Griffiths Biography for Aberafan Maesteg

Mark Griffiths, aged 57, has spent most of his working life in South Wales, where he shares eight children with his partner of ten years. Raised in Blackmill near Bridgend in a large family with four sisters and a twin brother, Mark's path was initially set towards the coal mines. However, as the coal industry declined by the time he left school, the local area suffered severe economic and social impacts.

Early Career and Challenges

Mark began his career in a local engineering factory in Bridgend, where he worked for over twenty years. In 2003, he faced redundancy due to EU incentives encouraging factory relocations to Europe, which further devastated the local economy and workforce.

New Opportunities and Community Service

Mark later found work with the community ambulance service in Neath, followed by a decade with a homeless charity. For the past six years, he has been employed as a fitter at a local garage. This role has aligned with his passion for motorcycle racing. Over the past 30 years, Mark has achieved numerous titles, including Welsh Hill Climb Champion, Ultimate Street Bike Champion, Welsh Sprint Champion, Sidecar Champion, and Fastest Welshman. He also holds three British land speed records at Pendine Sands and values the camaraderie within the racing community, considering them his ‘extended family.’

Commitment to Reform UK

Mark Griffiths is committed to offering the constituents of Aberafan and Maesteg the opportunity to vote for Reform UK in the upcoming General Election. He believes that the political establishment has failed the electorate, particularly regarding uncontrolled immigration, which has severely impacted local services, housing, and overall quality of life. Mark feels that despite winning the Brexit referendum in 2016, its promises have not been fully realized. He argues that local politicians are focused on achieving net zero carbon targets rather than addressing these pressing issues. Mark is confident that Reform UK is the only party capable of addressing these challenges and returning power to those who truly understand the current situation.
