Paul Godfrey Biography for Brentwood and Ongar
A Committed Advocate for Change
Paul Godfrey has called Brentwood home for most of his life, moving there with his parents as a young child. His deep roots in the community have shaped his perspective on local and national issues.
Disillusionment with the Current Political Landscape
Paul has been a consistent voter throughout his life, but recent years have left him increasingly disillusioned. He is frustrated with the incompetence, dishonesty, and unfulfilled promises of the prevailing government. Additionally, the opposition party seems to offer more of the same, leaving Paul to believe that Britain deserves a better option. He finds Reform UK to be a genuine alternative to the current two-party system.
Advocating for Practical and Compassionate Policies
Paul is concerned about the unsustainable levels of immigration experienced in recent years and the impact of the race towards net zero, which he believes disproportionately affects the poorest members of society. He advocates for a low-regulation, low-taxation economy that promotes free-market principles. Paul is also committed to ensuring that the rights of victims are prioritized over the rights of criminals and that children are protected while the elderly are respected.
Critique of Government Spending and Overreach
Paul points out the government's misplaced priorities, citing the £37 billion spent on a failed test track and trace system during the Covid pandemic. In contrast, essential services like the NHS, social care, education, and the criminal justice system remain underfunded. With taxation at its highest level in over 70 years and government overreach at an all-time high, Paul argues that Westminster has lost sight of its primary role: serving the people rather than dictating to them.
A New Direction with Reform UK
Upon discovering Reform UK, Paul found a party that resonated with his views. Although standing as a political candidate was not originally on his agenda, circumstances have led him to this path. Paul has been selected to represent Reform UK in the upcoming General Election, providing the people of Brentwood and Ongar with a viable alternative to the entrenched two-party system. He encourages voters to move beyond choosing the "least worst" option and instead vote for a party that aligns with their beliefs.
