Stephen Conlay Biography for Basildon and Billericay
Background and Personal Life
Stephen Conlay, born in London, relocated to Essex in the early 1980s. For the past 26 years, he has made his home in Brentwood, Essex, with his wife Lynne. With a rich career in both retail and property sectors, Stephen is now semi-retired, dedicating more time to his passion for politics.
Political Views and Goals
Stephen has observed significant cultural changes and substantial immigration over the last 27 years, which he attributes to the Labour government's abolition of the “primary purpose rule” in 1997 under Tony Blair. He notes that the Conservative government has continued this trend, with 5 million legal migrants entering the country in the last five years alone. Stephen believes that without a change in governance, these patterns will persist.
Why Vote Reform UK?
Stephen Conlay stands with Reform UK, advocating for a series of impactful policies:
- Stop Illegal Immigration: Immediate action to halt the influx of boats.
- Exit the ECHR: Withdrawal from the European Convention on Human Rights.
- Net Zero Policy Halt: Ceasing the pursuit of net zero carbon emissions.
- Stop ULEZ: Putting an end to the Ultra Low Emission Zone policies.
- Raise Earnings Threshold: Increasing the earnings threshold to £20,000.
- Restore Pension Funds: Reinstating £8 billion taken from pensioners in the last Conservative budget.
- QE Interest Reform: Ceasing payment of Quantitative Easing interest to central banks, a practice not followed elsewhere in Europe, saving £35 billion annually to be redirected to the NHS and other critical services.
- Immigration Control: Implementing a "1 in, 1 out" policy for legal immigration, excluding families or dependants.
