Early Life and Education
Julian Malins, born in 1950 in West Germany, is the son of an Army Chaplain. His childhood was marked by extensive travel and relocation, having lived in 24 different houses over 22 years. This nomadic upbringing included residences in Salisbury, Ghana, Nigeria, and Singapore. Julian attended Harnham and Codford St Mary schools in Salisbury before pursuing higher education at Brasenose College, Oxford. There, he excelled both academically and athletically, winning three boxing blues and playing rugby for Oxford University.
Legal Career and Achievements
Julian Malins was called to the Bar in 1972 and earned the title of Queen’s Counsel in 1991. He is currently an international King's Counsel, reflecting his continued prominence in the legal field. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as a part-time Crown Court Recorder in central London for 20 years. Additionally, Julian was an elected member of The Bar Council for two decades and a member of The Court of Common Council, the City of London’s local authority, for 36 years. He also leads his own chambers, further cementing his influence and leadership in the legal profession.
Personal Life
Julian Malins is the proud father of three daughters, one of whom is the acclaimed historical novelist and Cromwellian historian Miranda Malins. He is also a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren.
