A Committed and Transparent Advocate
John Thomas is renowned for his dedication, hard work, and effective communication. With a career spanning 25 years in support of the NHS, John has played a crucial role in ensuring hospitals across England and Wales are well-equipped to meet patient needs. The past four years have been particularly challenging, testing his resilience and commitment.
Early Life and Career Journey
John grew up in Wakefield and attended Kettlethorpe High School before completing his A-Levels at Wakefield College. His professional journey began with various temporary jobs, including his first role as a glass collector at Legends and Harleys in Castleford at age 17. In 1998, John joined NHS Supply Chain in Normanton as an Inventory Manager, a position he continues to hold.
Political Involvement and Independent Leadership
John has been actively involved in local politics, standing for election in Altofts and Whitwood for several years. He proudly leads the only Independent party in the Wakefield District, valuing independence from party whips to ensure that MPs remain accountable solely to their constituents. Reform UK MPs, under this model, are accountable only to the people, free from influence by big business or pharmaceutical lobbyists.
Commitment to Direct Democracy
As a key member of the Vote Leave campaign, which won 70% of the vote in Pontefract, Castleford, and Knottingley in 2016, John understands the importance of challenging the status quo and achieving significant change. He is now working with a blockchain developer on BlocVote, the UK’s first Direct Democracy portal. This innovative platform will empower constituents to directly instruct their MPs on critical issues and implement a right of recall, allowing voters to hold their representatives accountable.
Advocating for a Balanced Democracy
John believes that a direct democracy ensures power is distributed among the people rather than concentrated in the hands of a few. This system promotes a more balanced and representative decision-making process, fostering greater political ownership and responsibility among the populace.
Focus on Local Issues
John is deeply invested in the well-being of Pontefract, Castleford, and Knottingley, where he resides and has close personal connections. He challenges policies like the Net Zero plan, which he believes negatively impacts economic stability and personal well-being. Additionally, he critiques excessive immigration and quantitative easing practices that contribute to inflation and high taxes.
For those seeking genuine representation and a break from traditional political practices, John offers a dedicated and principled alternative.
