Matthew Moody Biography, Parliamentary Candidate for Penrith and Solway

Early Life and Education

Matthew Moody was born and raised in Yorkshire, where he grew up as the son of a dedicated policeman and a caring housewife. His upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of right and wrong, which was reinforced by his early passions for rugby league, the English language, and the Royal Air Force (RAF). His childhood also included many family walks on the hills, a favorite activity of his parents that gave him a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.

Academic and Professional Background

Matthew pursued his higher education at Oxford University, where he studied Theology. After completing his studies, he transitioned into the business world, primarily focusing on the travel and leisure sectors. Throughout his career, he gained extensive experience and built a solid foundation in business management before deciding to venture into entrepreneurship. He established his own business in real estate and marketing, where he applied his skills and knowledge to grow a successful enterprise.

Political Career and Move to Cumbria

In 2022, Matthew relocated to Cumbria after being selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Penrith and the Border, now known as Penrith and Solway. His commitment to addressing the issues faced by his community led him to step up as the candidate for Reform UK. He is driven by a desire to implement a common-sense, unified approach to politics and management, aimed at righting the wrongs perpetuated by successive governments.

Leading Reform UK’s Efforts in Cumbria

As Reform UK’s PPC, Matthew has been at the forefront of the party’s efforts in Cumbria, organizing well-attended meetings across the constituency, including in Penrith, Alston, and Keswick. His leadership was evident when he and the Regional Manager for Cumbria arranged for Richard Tice to visit Penrith on January 15th, 2024. The event drew a record crowd eager to learn about how Reform UK’s policies can transform the country and make Britain great again. The event was widely covered in local media, including the News and Star and the Westmorland Herald.

Addressing the Challenges of Penrith and Solway

Penrith and Solway is a predominantly rural constituency facing numerous challenges, such as inadequate investment, poor infrastructure, and a lack of support from the central government. Farmers are struggling with reduced payments for land use, healthcare services are underfunded, public transport is unreliable, and the roads are riddled with potholes. Unemployment is rising, there is a shortage of affordable housing, and young people have few opportunities for a prosperous future. Matthew believes that these issues require urgent attention and decisive action.

A Voice for Change

Matthew Moody is standing for Reform UK because he has witnessed the neglect of ordinary people by successive governments. He believes that it is time to stand up and demand change. His campaign is built on the principle that enough is enough, and it is time to restore fairness and opportunity to the people of Penrith and Solway.
