David Kirkwood Biography, Parliamentary Candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale

David Kirkwood is an experienced engineer with deep roots in Lanarkshire and Dumfriesshire. Born in Baillieston, within the sound of lions roaring, he has always called Scotland home, despite having lived in various parts of England, Wales, Luxembourg, and Sweden. David’s professional journey began at the young age of nine as a lathe operator in his family’s machine shop, a foundation that has shaped his career in small business and consultancy.

For over 30 years, David has worked as a freelance IT consultant, providing invaluable support to more than 40 companies across diverse sectors, including the Civil Service, NHS, banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. His vast experience and problem-solving skills have made him a trusted figure in helping businesses navigate complex challenges.

Political Experience and Motivation

David's first formal political involvement came as the successful election agent for an independent council candidate in South Lanarkshire. However, it was his growing concern for the future of his country that motivated him to step forward as the Reform UK Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale, and Tweeddale. His decision was driven by fear, fury, and frustration: fear of the direction Scotland was heading, fury at the ongoing issues, and frustration that no meaningful action was being taken. Now, David is committed to being part of the solution, working tirelessly to bring about positive change for his community.

A Local Voice for Rural Communities

David currently resides in Moffat, located at the heart of his constituency. Having spent most of his life in rural areas, he understands the unique challenges faced by these communities. The loss of essential services, such as police stations, and the reduction in public transport have been detrimental to rural life. Additionally, rising energy costs due to Net Zero policies have severely impacted the farming industry.

David believes that addressing the need for affordable housing and creating local job opportunities is crucial for helping young people remain in the communities they love. He supports Reform UK Scotland’s policies that encourage small businesses and entrepreneurship, aiming to regenerate the local economy and build a brighter future for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale, and Tweeddale.
