Charles Anthony Keal Biography for Dumfries and Galloway

A Dedicated Community Leader

Charles Anthony Keal has had a distinguished career spanning the fields of meteorology, education, and public service. He began his professional journey in the Royal Navy, where he served as a Meteorologist and Oceanographer until the age of 37. After transitioning from military service, Charles took on significant roles in two London schools, where he excelled as Head of Mathematics and later as Deputy Headteacher. In 2013, he retired to Galloway, where he now dedicates his time to community involvement and voluntary work with three distinct organizations.

Political Advocacy for Local Communities

With a longstanding interest in politics, Charles served as a Borough Councillor for four years in the 1990s. Currently, he is standing for Reform UK Scotland, motivated by the belief that government mismanagement has rendered essential services ineffective. He expresses his concerns over the erosion of the social contract, highlighting issues such as the unaffordability of housing, skyrocketing energy bills, and the reliance on food banks by working individuals. Furthermore, Charles is particularly frustrated by the burdensome regulations imposed on rural areas, which often stem from bureaucratic decisions made far from the local communities.

Reforming Policies for a Better Future

Charles Anthony Keal advocates for returning power to local communities through effective reforms. His ambitious plans aim to address critical issues affecting citizens and foster economic growth:

  • Eliminating NHS Waiting Lists: Commit to reducing waiting lists to zero within two years.

  • Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Propose exempting small and medium businesses from Corporation Tax to stimulate economic activity.

  • Enhancing Tax Thresholds: Raise the Income Tax threshold to £20,000, freeing six million people from the tax burden.

  • Improving Energy Security: Focus on increasing energy security and reducing costs for households.

  • Accelerating Housing Development: Streamline planning processes to ensure affordable housing is available for rent or purchase.
