Sarah Wood Biography, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Spen Valley

Hello, I’m Sarah Wood, and I’m proud to represent the Reform UK Party in the newly established constituency of Spen Valley, formerly known as Batley & Spen. As a professional chartered engineer with 21 years of experience, born in Halifax and a lifelong resident of Spen Valley, I am deeply rooted in our community.

My journey from political apathy to active engagement began out of concern for the future of our nation. As a mother, wife, and citizen, I am alarmed by the current state of our democracy and the erosion of our freedoms. This dissatisfaction drives my candidacy for Spen Valley.

Why I Stand for Spen Valley

My decision to run for office stems from a profound sense of duty to safeguard the future for my son and our community. I have witnessed a disturbing decline in the effectiveness of our democratic systems and an alarming reduction in our liberties. This situation touches every aspect of my life, from securing a GP appointment to ensuring my son’s education and protecting personal freedoms.

Key Issues I Will Tackle:

  • Healthcare: Ensuring timely access to GP appointments.
  • Travel: Addressing the challenges posed by EU Net Zero Caps affecting holiday flights.
  • Public Services: Improving access to essential services.
  • Education: Safeguarding our children’s education and well-being.
  • Personal Freedom: Advocating for medical sovereignty and personal autonomy.
  • Local and National Mobility: Ensuring freedom of movement within our community and beyond.
  • Financial Control: Fighting for transparent banking practices.
  • Public Rights: Holding public sector officials accountable to protect our rights.

My Vision and Values

I bring a wealth of honesty, technical expertise, leadership, clarity, compassion, and resourcefulness to Spen Valley. I am dedicated to upholding your values and integrating them into our collective fight for a better future. My alignment with the Reform UK Party, formerly the Brexit Party, underscores my commitment to these principles, as demonstrated in my previous candidacy in Halifax during the 2019 General Election.

Through conversations with many constituents, I know that my values resonate with yours. While politicians often bear the brunt of public dissatisfaction, I believe that accountability also lies with the people. We must reclaim our power to effect change, and I am here to lead that charge.

Join Me in Taking Back Our Power

At 46, living in Spen Valley with my husband and son, I am dedicated to making a difference. My early career in the RAF Pilot Training and Aeronautical Engineering at Salford University, followed by global engineering roles with Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, BMW Group, Rolls Royce plc, and Jaguar Land Rover, has equipped me with diverse experiences.

During a 14-year career break, I worked with young boys facing Emotional, Social, and Mental Health challenges in West Yorkshire. I then pursued my passion for music as a professional musician, touring the world. Returning to Yorkshire, I qualified as a Secondary School Teacher of Engineering Design & Technology at Sheffield Hallam University.

I am committed to supporting boys and men in overcoming societal challenges and hold a deep appreciation for the arts. Fluent in three European languages and a skilled classical guitarist, I believe in the transformative power of people and the arts.

I cherish my time spent with family and friends in Cleckheaton, Huddersfield, and Halifax. Following in the footsteps of my Granddad Albert, a Justice of the Peace in Halifax during the 1960s, I am honored to continue his legacy of service.

Let’s reclaim our power and shape a brighter future for Spen Valley. Will you stand with me?
