Rory O'Brien Biography, Parliamentary Candidate for Spelthorne
Meet Rory O'Brien, a passionate advocate for reform in the UK political landscape. Born in Sligo, Eire to Anglo-Irish parents, Rory settled in the UK in the late 1970s. Growing up in South Harrow, North West London, Rory experienced the warmth of a loving single-parent household alongside two older siblings. Today, he resides in Sunbury, situated on the edges of Spelthorne Constituency, bordering the newly extended ULEZ zone, with his wife Sandra and their two children.
Rory's journey into politics began with grassroots activism, notably contributing to the Brexit Party's campaign in Spelthorne during the 2019 General Election. However, it was the stringent Covid-19 lockdown measures and the prevailing groupthink in Westminster that galvanized him into direct action.
His political involvement intensified, starting with the 2021 Surrey County Council elections, where Rory contested for Sunbury Common & Ashford Common, securing a commendable 4% share of votes. Undeterred, he continued his efforts in the 2022 Spelthorne Council by-election for Sunbury Common, garnering a 7% share of votes. Demonstrating his steadfast commitment, Rory's share of votes surged to 11% in the 2023 Local Election for Sunbury Common.
Driven by compassion and a fervent belief in necessary national reforms, Rory advocates for a return to the core values of 'small government,' emphasizing oversight while championing free expression, freedom of movement, freedom of choice, and free-market principles.
