Chris Harrison Biography for South Norfolk
Chris Harrison is honoured to be the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Reform UK in South Norfolk. With deep roots in the area, Harrison's connection to Norfolk dates back to 1992 when he moved to the region to pursue a PhD at the John Innes Centre in Norwich. His journey began as a postgraduate student in what is now the South Norfolk Constituency, eventually leading to a distinguished career in research, management, and director roles within the university sector.
A Diverse Career and Local Business Success
Since 2012, Harrison has transitioned into the private sector, focusing on start-up companies that commercialise innovative products and concepts. Recently, he served as the managing director of a plant-based food venture in Norfolk, working alongside scientists, farmers, major retailers, and catering services, including school catering. His entrepreneurial spirit is evident in his retail business, which has grown from a home office to a thriving shop on a Norfolk village high street.
Personal Life and Healthcare Experience
Married to a full-time GP, Harrison has gained significant insight into the challenges facing the NHS and healthcare sector. His household discussions frequently revolve around healthcare issues, deepening his understanding of the sector’s needs. Harrison's 17-year-old daughter, studying graphic design at a Norwich college, faces the generational challenges amplified by recent global events, reflecting his awareness of the contemporary issues impacting youth.
A Fresh Approach with Reform UK
Harrison's political journey began with the Conservatives, where he served as a Broadland District Council councillor and supported the party since his student days in Leeds. However, disillusionment with the Conservative Party's leadership and internal conflicts has led him to Reform UK. He finds Reform UK’s fresh approach and diverse candidate pool, with experience in small businesses and public services, a compelling alternative. Harrison values the opportunity to contribute without being part of the political elite and is committed to driving radical change.
Commitment to South Norfolk and National Interests
Bringing a wealth of experience from both public and private sectors, Harrison is dedicated to enhancing the rural economy of South Norfolk while capitalising on opportunities from Norwich Research Park’s workforce. His goals include reducing taxation, improving public services, and eliminating waste in unaccountable bodies like the BBC and NHS management.
Harrison's background in science and business has highlighted the importance of skilled migration. He acknowledges the benefits of welcoming skilled individuals to the UK but also recognises the need for controlled immigration policies to avoid the pitfalls of unchecked labour influx. He critiques past and current policies on immigration and crime, advocating for more effective solutions.
A Promise of Dedication and Change
Chris Harrison invites support from the community, promising to work diligently as a force for good and positive change. His commitment to South Norfolk and his vision for Reform UK represent a new direction in addressing the challenges faced by both the local and national landscape.
