Mary McKenna Biography for Solihull West and Shirley

Experienced Legal Professional

Mary McKenna is the Reform UK candidate for Solihull West and Shirley, bringing extensive experience in law and healthcare to her campaign. With a distinguished career spanning over 16 years as a barrister at Holborn Chambers, Mary has developed a robust practice in criminal and common law. Her qualifications in Direct Access have allowed her to advocate effectively in the coroner’s court on behalf of families, showcasing her commitment to justice and the legal system.

Background in Healthcare

Prior to her legal career, Mary served as the Director of Midwifery & Nursing for nine years at a large NHS Trust, where she spearheaded significant changes to implement national policies while maintaining high standards of clinical care. Her role also involved independent work as a Nurse/Midwife with Sutton CCG, focusing on creating integrated clinical care systems between community services and local hospitals.

Political Engagement and Brexit

Mary's interest in politics was ignited during the Blair years, as she observed the NHS being undermined by political interference. Her disillusionment with the Conservative party's handling of the EU and its impact on British laws led her to support Nigel Farage's vision for Brexit. As a candidate for the Brexit Party in Yardley during the 2019 general election, she witnessed Farage's commitment to prioritizing national interests over party politics, a stance that resonated with her deeply.

Commitment to Reform UK

In 2024, Mary McKenna is addressing the shortcomings of the current Conservative government, which, despite receiving a significant majority due to Farage’s strategic withdrawal of candidates, has failed to deliver on Brexit, resulting in financial instability and uncontrolled immigration. Mary’s decision to run for Reform UK stems from her dedication to advancing policies that restore national sovereignty and address the challenges facing the UK. With the support of the residents of Solihull West and Shirley, she aims to champion the policies and reforms outlined in Reform UK's contract with the people.
