Malcolm Cupis Biography for Melksham and Devizes

Malcolm Cupis is a deeply rooted local figure with a rich history in both media and public relations. Born and raised in Melksham, he attended Aloeric Primary School and George Ward Comprehensive before his family emigrated to South Africa in 1983. Returning to the UK in 1989, Malcolm took on significant roles in journalism, first as Editor of the Melksham News and then as the founding Editor of White Horse News in 1990. His career evolved into public relations in 1992, leading him to London, and later, to the Middle East as a Senior Consultant with a major global PR firm. After returning to the UK in 2000, he joined the world's second-largest PR company before becoming an independent consultant in 2003.

A Global Journey

Throughout his career, Malcolm has traveled extensively across Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. Despite his global experiences, he moved back to Keevil in 2019, reuniting with his roots and settling with his wife Caroline, their two dogs, and a cat. Reflecting on his journey, Malcolm expresses a profound connection to his hometown, stating, “Returning home has been a dream come true. I always felt like a guest in the places I lived abroad, and it’s been wonderful to reconnect with old friends and truly belong again.”

Political Engagement and Reform UK

Malcolm was an active Conservative Party member for 25 years before resigning, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s departure from core conservative values. He views Reform UK as a champion of classical liberal principles, including low taxation, personal responsibility, and free market economics. He critiques the prevailing political climate and the failures of the first-past-the-post system, advocating for genuine local representation and a break from traditional politics. Malcolm emphasizes, “Reform UK offers a real alternative for those seeking to be heard and to see meaningful change.”

Commitment to Local Representation

Malcolm is passionate about local issues and believes that national problems often stem from local concerns. He aims to engage directly with Parish Councils to understand and advocate for the needs of his constituency. “An MP should listen to local people and advocate for their needs in Parliament,” Malcolm asserts. He contrasts his grassroots approach with the experience of career politicians, asserting his commitment to authentic representation and opportunity for all, regardless of background.

Personal Interests

Beyond his political and professional life, Malcolm enjoys countryside walks with his dogs, restoring classic cars and motorcycles, and supporting Bath Rugby and Somerset cricket. His deep interest in British history further enriches his understanding of the cultural context within which he operates.
