Gary Stevens Biography, Parliamentary Candidate for Dulwich and West Norwood

From Rural Roots to Urban Leadership

Gary Stevens was born and raised on a sheep and cattle farm in Southland, New Zealand. His journey has since taken him across several major cities, including Sydney, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, and London. Currently residing in Bromley with his wife, a SENCO teacher in Dulwich, and their two sons, Gary has developed a deep connection to his community.

His ties to Dulwich and West Norwood (DAWN) run deep, having lived in various parts of the constituency since the early 1990s. His first job in the UK was at the Crown & Greyhound in Dulwich Village, and he has been actively involved with a local rugby club for nine years, where he serves as an IRB-qualified rugby coach.

A Career in IT and Finance

Gary has enjoyed a long-standing career in IT and finance, beginning with his work in investment banking in London in the early 1990s. He is currently a director at a major investment bank, managing high-profile projects as a program manager. This role has allowed him to blend his passion for IT and finance, making it a dream come true to work in one of the world’s financial hubs.

Political Involvement and Community Impact

Gary became politically active in 2017 after years of following the political landscape. In 2018, he was elected as a local Councillor in Bromley. During his time in office, he tackled key issues such as housing, traffic, and community development. One of his most notable accomplishments was leading the charge to implement secure online council meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that the democratic process continued uninterrupted.

Commitment to Dulwich and West Norwood

As a local Councillor, Gary developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the people of Dulwich and West Norwood (DAWN). If elected as an MP, he pledges to focus on addressing the local issues that matter most. His experience in sports club management will also help him support community organisations that rely on volunteers, which he views as an essential part of the local fabric.

Gary is a staunch opponent of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) and the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which he believes disproportionately impact lower-income communities and disrupt social cohesion. He fully supports Reform UK's policy to eliminate these measures in DAWN and across the UK.

General Election 2024: A Call for Democratic Integrity

Gary views Rishi Sunak’s decision to call a snap election for July 4th, 2024, as an attempt to undermine the democratic process. The short timeline gives parties little time to prepare, potentially limiting voters’ ability to make informed decisions. However, Reform UK is committed to fielding a full slate of candidates and ensuring the British people have a clear and democratic choice.

On July 4th, Gary urges the people of DAWN and the UK to seize their own Independence Day by rejecting the dominance of the Labour and Conservative parties. He stands with Reform UK in calling for true change and a future that reflects the will of the people.
