Early Life and Career Beginnings
Peter Sceats was born into a Bethnal Green family on Wilmot Street, where his parents worked as publicans. His early experiences laid the groundwork for a distinguished career in the energy sector.
Pioneering Work in the Energy Sector
Peter Sceats is renowned for founding the commodity price indices that underpin the international coal market. His expertise led him to become the Head of Risk Management for the world's largest energy company, a role he held until May 2020. Today, he leverages his deep industry knowledge as an expert witness in energy litigation while also overseeing his family’s burgeoning gin brand.
Community and Charitable Involvement
The Bethnal Green Tube Disaster, which claimed the life of his cousin Lillian, motivated Peter to collaborate with the Stairway to Heaven Charity. His efforts contributed significantly to the fundraising for the memorial in Bethnal Green Gardens, reflecting his commitment to honoring the past and supporting his community.
Political Engagement and Advocacy
Initially a supporter of the Referendum Party, Peter actively campaigned for Vote Leave during the 2016 EU referendum. His political advocacy continued with the March 2021 launch of the “Fairness in Publicly Funded Salaries” petition, proposing a salary cap for all publicly funded roles in the UK, pegged to the Prime Minister’s salary.
Political Philosophy and Vision
Peter Sceats believes that the traditional Left vs. Right political dichotomy is outdated. Instead, he champions a perspective that contrasts common sense with a “woke,” climate-obsessed, and tax-hiking elite. As a member of Reform UK, he is committed to representing common sense values, combining hard work, efficiency, and compassion in his service to constituents.
