Sue Morris Biography for Peterborough

Addressing Political Apathy

Sue Morris has experienced firsthand the disillusionment many people feel towards politics while canvassing for her Nomination Form. She was struck by the strong sentiments of those who claimed, “I don’t have anything to do with politics.” This response highlights a common misconception that people can separate themselves from the political process. Sue believes that politics affects every aspect of our lives, with every decision made by central and local government having a direct impact on the community.

Standing for Representation and Accountability

Sue is running for election because she is deeply concerned about the erosion of democratic representation. She believes Members of Parliament should be advocates for their constituents, crafting laws that reflect the best interests of the population. However, recent parliaments have shown a disturbing trend of deferring decisions to foreign governments, judges, and international organizations. Sue feels that this is a failure of leadership and accountability, with those in power ignoring not only the public but also experts who challenge the prevailing opinions. This motivated her to stand as a candidate, determined to be a voice for those who feel unheard.

Advocating for Open Debate and Public Engagement

As an MP, Sue aims to be at the heart of discussions, gathering diverse perspectives and ensuring her constituents are well-informed about upcoming proposals. She believes that politicians should not just respond to the loudest voices but should actively present ideas and engage in open debate with their communities. Sue has launched a Patreon page to delve deeper into her thoughts and share her observations with supporters. She values the input from the public, viewing it as an opportunity to learn from the knowledge and expertise of others.

Connecting with Constituents through Community Engagement

Sue understands that not everyone engages with online content, so she is committed to reaching out to constituents through printed materials. From election leaflets to calls for participation, Sue sees this as a long-term initiative beyond the election cycle. She is seeking volunteers to help distribute information in their neighborhoods, aiming to raise awareness of governmental actions and encourage more people to participate in the democratic process. She invites those interested in contributing to this effort to contact her directly, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.

A Diverse Professional Background

Sue brings a wealth of experience from various fields to her political campaign. She and her husband have successfully run a small print business for over 25 years, serving local organizations, small businesses, and families. This has given her a unique perspective on the diverse needs and challenges faced by different sectors of the community. Her professional journey also includes roles in laboratories, the Prison Service, and telecommunications, where she spent four years involved with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). As a lifelong learner, Sue has pursued education both after leaving school and later in adulthood.

Challenging Conventional Wisdom

Sue is passionate about questioning widely accepted beliefs, especially those that impact public health and societal well-being. She points out that despite extensive health guidance, the prevalence of so-called ‘diseases of civilization’ like diabetes continues to rise. She argues that without significant changes, the financial burden of these diseases could overwhelm healthcare systems globally. Sue also advocates for policies that empower families with stable housing, educational autonomy, and economic opportunities. She challenges the prevailing narratives around the climate crisis, suggesting that local solutions, such as farmers adapting to environmental changes, might be more effective than centralized policies.

Through her campaign, Sue Morris hopes to inspire more people to engage with politics, make their voices heard, and contribute to a more transparent and representative political system.
