Derek Winton for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh in General Elections 2024
Derek Winton Biography for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh
Derek Winton is proud to represent Reform UK as the candidate for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Derek was raised by a nurse and an RAF aircraft technician. He moved to Edinburgh in 1996 to attend the University of Edinburgh, and with a few brief exceptions, he has made the city his home ever since. Now residing in Musselburgh with his wife and dog, Derek works as a management consultant, bringing his expertise to both his professional and political life.
Political Engagement Sparked by the Pandemic
Derek’s political journey began in 2021, driven by his dissatisfaction with how both the UK and Scottish governments handled the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging time, Reform UK stood out as the only party addressing the harmful impact of lockdowns, which were based on questionable science and unreliable computer models. Derek saw the need for a party that was willing to stand up for the people and challenge government decisions that threatened livelihoods and freedoms.
A Call for Change in Westminster and Holyrood
In Derek's view, the Conservative party in Westminster has lost sight of its core values and responsibilities, while the SNP in Holyrood continues to stumble from scandal to scandal. Derek believes that both parties need a reminder of their duty to serve the people who elected them. As a Reform UK candidate, he is committed to championing the voices of his constituents and advocating for real change in government, focused on accountability, transparency, and better governance for all.
