Terence Longstaff Biography for Colchester
Early Life and Education
Terence Longstaff was born in Colchester and spent his early years moving frequently due to his father's military career. After settling back in Colchester, he completed his secondary education. Following a year working on a building site, Terence pursued his ambition of becoming a Mechanical Engineer by joining the Army.
A Journey from Soldier to Engineering Operations Manager
Over a distinguished 25-year career in the Army, Terence Longstaff rose to the rank of Warrant Officer 2nd Class. His role provided him with extensive experience and knowledge in mechanical engineering. Upon retiring from the Army, Terence transitioned to a new career as an Engineering Operations Manager, specializing in maintaining plant operations for wastewater sites.
Commitment to Environmental Improvement
In his current position, Terence has gained valuable insights into the environmental challenges posed by outdated infrastructure. He is particularly concerned about the pollution affecting waterways and beaches due to the inability of old systems to handle the increasing number of residential connections. Terence advocates for a reform in how water companies allocate their profits, urging them to invest in modern equipment rather than merely paying fines for environmental breaches.
Family Life and Personal Interests
Terence Longstaff has been married to Sharon for 32 years. The couple has three children and one grandson. In their leisure time, Terence and Sharon enjoy dog walks and motorbike rides through the county’s picturesque lanes. They relish the opportunity to explore and unwind, often stopping for refreshments along the way while navigating the local potholes.
